SIIA Honors Industry Veterans with Lifetime Achievement, Ed Tech Impact and Best Overall Education Solution CODiE Awards

Three change-makers in education technology and one company recognized during the 13th annual Education Industry Symposium

DENVER (July 27, 2016) – The Education Technology Industry Network (ETIN) of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) announced the recipients of three industry awards: Lifetime Achievement Award, Ed Tech Impact Award and Best Overall CODiE Education Solution. Mark McCusker, CEO of Texthelp Ltd. was honored with ETIN’s prestigious Education Lifetime Achievement Award. SIIA also presented its Ed Tech Impact Award to Michael Jay, President and Founder of Educational Systemics and Kevin Custer, Co-Founder of Arc Capital Development. The Best Overall Education Solution CODiE Award was presented to Schoology. The awards were presented during the annual Education Industry Symposium held in Denver July 25-27.

About Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Mark McCusker

McCusker became the Chief Executive of Texthelp in September 1998. Working with the Senior Management team, Mark has driven the growth of Texthelp from a fledgling company (with just 6 employees) to a world leader in the field of assistive technology, which now has over 135 employees and distributes its assistive and language learning software products worldwide.

McCusker is the immediate past Chair of the British Assistive Technology Association (BATA and previously held Directorships of both the Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) and the Alliance for Technology Access (ATA). He has also been involved with the development of a number of not-for-profit organizations and is currently a director of Camara Education.

About Ed Tech Impact Award Recipient Michael Jay

Throughout his career, Jay has demonstrated a passion for learners and learning. While he is widely known for his work with science curriculum, Jay career included work with Apple’s ACOT program, and serving as Apple Education’s competitive analyst. Beyond Apple, Michael made significant contributions to Mediaseek and Brainium. His work includes a patent for his approach to showing the relationship between standards and instructional resources. For the past 15 years, Jay’s commitment to education has been the driving force that evolves the range of services and consulting that Educational Systemics brings to clients. Thirteen years of service on the Schools Interoperability Framework Board and 10 years on the SIIA ETIN Board are among Jay’s many contributions and industry service.

About Ed Tech Impact Award Recipient Kevin Custer

Two decades of work in the education and technology market has secured Custer’s place as a recognized leader in launching and growing successful businesses in the online and enterprise markets. Arc Capital Development is a private investment and advisory firm which has worked with over 100 international and domestic education and special needs companies. From launching companies to raising capital, Custer has touched companies and solutions that reach millions of students annually and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. He is a tireless supporter and advocate for those with special needs, giving his time and expertise in serving on the National Board of Directors for the Autism Society.

About Best Overall Education Solution CODiE Award Winner Schoology

The Best Overall Education Solution was awarded to Schoology, an LMS that connects all the people, content and systems that fuel education. Schoology aims to personalize learning and foster collaboration with its built-in network of educators.

The company integrates apps, systems and content educators use, including course and content management; personalization; faculty and student collaboration; resource sharing; assessment; analytics; and simple integration.

The Best Overall Education Solution category winner is determined based on the scores of the first and second round of CODiE award judging. The award is presented to the product with the highest score from among the categories that qualify.
