University of Hawai’i West O’ahu hires college chancellor
Maenette K.P. Ah Nee-Benham is the new chancellor of the University of Hawai’i West O’ahu.
A native Hawaiian, Benham was previously the inaugural dean of the Hawai’inuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge at University of Hawai’i Manoa, the only college of indigenous knowledge at a Research I institution in the U.S. In 2015 she was honored as Educator of the Year by The Native Hawaiian Education Association.
She has been teaching since 1978 and in higher ed since 1993. Much of her focus has been on creating alternative frames of leadership, improving education program planning and assessments, supporting leadership development, building school-community partnerships, and promoting professional ethics.

- Pareena Lawrence has been named president of Hollins University in Virginia, taking office this July. Formerly CAO of Augustana College in Illinois, she was born in India and attended an all-girls school there. Hollins has an all-female undergraduate program.
- Vincent Edward Price will become the 10th president of Duke University this summer. An academic known for encouraging faculty diversity, embracing global efforts and spearheading efforts toward online open-learning platforms, Price was formerly provost at the University of Pennsylvania.
- Travis Feezell takes the helm at Hastings College in Nebraska in July. The former provost and CAO at University of the Ozarks in Arkansas, Feezell helped lead the school to significant enrollment and retention increases.
