Transfer Talk

University Business, July/August 2012

Recognizing that IT students at two-year Lake Land College (Ill.) had no nearby transfer option, officials partnered with Eastern Illinois University to allow for transfer of credits toward a four-year degree in Management Information Systems. The agreement applies to former, current, and future students in the network administration, programming, and web technology applied science degree programs.…A recent reverse transfer agreement involves Southwestern College (Kan.) Professional Studies and eight area community colleges, allowing Southwestern learners to transfer credits back so they can earn associate degrees—helping those institutions to bolster degree completion statistics and providing a milestone for learners pursuing bachelor’s degrees. Schoolcraft College and University of Michigan-Dearborn forged a similar agreement. Qualified students who leaves Schoolcraft and transfer to UM-Dearborn will receive a letter about the program, which allows them to use credits earned at both schools to earn an associate degree.
