Warren Nichols, former president of Volunteer State Community College (Tenn.), began a new role as Tennessee Board of Regents’ Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges October 1. He is overseeing a unified system created for the 13 community colleges across Tennessee. The consolidated system will allow for more effective and
efficient operations among the colleges and within the board of regents, which oversees 46 public higher ed institutions. … David Shockley has been appointed the sixth president of Surry Community College (N.C.), to begin Jan. 3, 2012. He formerly served as executive vice president of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (N.C.). … Liang Chee Wee (whose thoughts appear in the roundtable feature on page 33) began his role as president of Northeast Iowa Community College in October. He has served as interim president there since July. … Ron Davis, former provost of Vincennes University (Ind.) is vice president for instruction at John Wood Community College (Ill.) as of October 1. He replaced Ray Staats, who is now president of Gadsden State Community College (Ala.).
