John T. Delaney is the new dean of American University’s Kogod School of Business, effective July 18.

Delaney, recently dean of the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and the College Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh, oversaw a 20 percent rise in enrollment and an increase of $4.5 million in annual giving there. He succeeds interim dean Erran Carmel.

  • Hamid “Ham” Shirvani is the new president of Briar Cliff University in Iowa, effective July 1. He has had leadership stints at California State University, Stanislaus and the North Dakota University System. Most recently he was a senior fellow with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. He replaces Beverly A. Wharton, who is retiring.
  • Kenneth Miranda has been named by Cornell University to oversee the school’s $6 billion endowment, starting July 1. Miranda was director of the International Monetary Fund’s investment office, where he handled $11.5 billion in assets for retirement and benefit plans. He has served on Cornell’s investment committee since February 2012.
  • Retired vice admiral Ann Rondeau is president of the College of DuPage in Illinois, starting July 1. The sixth president in the school’s 49-year history, Rondeau has served more than 26 years in military and education roles. Most recently, she was a consultant and partner with IBM Watson Group. —R.B.
