Food that makes the meal

While location is key when it comes to campus dining, students also appreciate delicious, unique food options. Here are some schools that have added meal options that have become a hit with students:  

School: Purchase College (N.Y.)
Eatery: Terra Ve Café
Why its food makes the meal: It’s a restaurant-style experience that serves a diverse amount of vegan and vegetarian options, including sushi, hot and cold sandwiches, grilled entrées, pizza, and dessert. Purchase College surveyed its students before adding this option. It’s the first completely vegan/vegetarian restaurant on a college campus in the U.S.

School: Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Mass.)
Eatery: Goats Head Restaurant
Why its food makes the meal: This casual restaurant, with a theme modeled after WPI’s mascot, has a pub-style menu that also serves wine and beer. Available are typical bar food appetizers like cheese fries and a bloomin’ onion, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and desserts. The Colossal Burger, featuring two half-pound ground beef patties on a roll with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, red onion, smoked bacon and American cheese, is a popular item with students.

School: Green Mountain College (Vt.)
Eatery: Withey Dining Hall
Why its food makes the meal: As sustainability is a key goal for GMC, its dining hall uses locally-grown meats, dairy, and produce for fresh and organic meals, including soup and salad, hot meals, and many vegetarian and vegan options. In fact, GMC’s own on-campus farm provides eggs and some produce, as well as lamb meat. The dining facilities also compost food waste.

School: Northeastern University (Mass.)
Eatery: The Hungry Hungry Husky (H3) Food Truck
Why its food makes the meal: Serving food with an international flare, the H3 food truck offers a variety of foods based on student input. Popular items include a buf­falo chicken sand­wich and a mac­a­roni and cheese sand­wich. Asian-​​inspired tacos, rice bowls, falafel, and many French fry options are also available. Its late-night menu includes American-comfort food, such as chicken ten­ders, chicken wings, and beef and veggie burgers.

School: SUNY Albany (N.Y.)
Eatery: Rosso Verde Pizza
Why its food makes the meal: This eatery features Italian pasta, entrees, and pizza, the latter featuring all locally-sourced sauce, flour, and toppings. Reportedly well-received by students, Rosso Verde sells a variety of different pizzas by the slice and features pizza specials throughout the year.
