Eugene L. Anderson to lead access office at APLU

  • In new role at APLU, Eugene L. Anderson will continue the mission of advancing historically black colleges and universities and Hispanic-serving institutions.

Eugene L. Anderson has been named vice president for the Office of Access and Success for the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU).

He will be involved with the Council of 1890 Universities and the Commission on Access, Diversity, and Excellence, and also support other APLU initiatives focused on increasing degree completion for minorities.

In his new role, Anderson will continue the mission of advancing historically black colleges and universities and Hispanic-serving institutions.

For the past eight years he has been chief policy officer and managing vice president of the American Dental Education Association, working on initiatives to ensure that institutions are accessible and responsive to minorities, and leading the association’s research, government relations and diversity offices.

Anderson succeeds interim vice president RoSusan D. Bartee, who returns to the University of Mississippi.

  • Frank Sánchez was chosen as president of Rhode Island College in May. He was formerly vice chancellor for student affairs at City University of New York.
  • Karen Miner-Romanoff, associate provost for academic quality and executive director of the International Institute for Innovative Instruction at Franklin University in Ohio, has been selected to the Data Fellows program by the National Consortium for Data Science. 
  • Samantha S. Earp has been appointed chief information officer at Smith College. She previously led the online learning initiative HarvardX and was managing director for academic technology services at Harvard. —R.B.
