College campus groundbreakings in Maine, New York and California
Engineering Innovation Hub
The State University of New York at New Paltz
This two-story, 19,500-square-foot structure, with an anticipated spring 2019 completion, will serve as a business incubator for technology and engineering startups. Spaces will include a 1,900-square-foot teaching lab, a 3D-printing hub, a 850-square-foot machine shop and a 1,200-square-foot computer lab, among other facilities.
Urbahn Architects (New York) serves as architect and PC Construction (Poughkeepsie, New York) is the general contractor for the $14 million facility.
University of California, Merced
The university broke ground on a $1.3 billion multibuilding project that will nearly double the campus size and expand enrollment to 10,000 students by fall 2020. The project features 13 new buildings totaling 1.2 million square feet. The first three buildings—a dining facility and two student residence halls—will open in fall 2018.
WT Partnership (San Francisco/Los Angeles) serves as lead project and contract manager. Webcor Construction LP (San Francisco) is lead contractor. Architects are Skidmore Owings & Merrill Inc. Wellness learning center
Husson University (Maine)
A 7,100-square-foot, $3 million wellness learning center at the Husson University’s campus in Bangor, Maine, will provide more academic space for the university so it can increase nursing program enrollment.
The facility—scheduled for fall 2018 groundbreaking and fall 2019 completion—will deliver health services to students and education in nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy and graduate counseling. Officials anticipate the wellness center will feature a 3,700-square-foot simulation lab.
The architect, project manager and construction companies are still being determined.
