Campus groundbreakings: St. Francis Chapel, STEM facility, 310 Innovation Blvd

St. Francis Chapel

University of Saint Francis

A new 7,000-square-foot freestanding chapel will be the tallest and most central point at the University of Saint Francis in Indiana.

Funds for the $4.7 million structure—designed by a liturgical architect at New Jersey-based Design Collaborative Architects and Planners—came from the university’s $22.7 million Faith and Reason capital fundraising campaign. With seating for 250, the chapel will have a choir loft and adoration space.

The university’s televised Sunday morning mass will continue at the new site, which should be completed in fall 2018.

STEM facility

Virginia Western Community College

This 72,000-square-foot, $30 million facility will become the largest building on campus when it’s completed in spring 2019. It will house engineering fabrication, mechatronics, organic chemistry and microbiology labs, as well as new classrooms to promote collaborative and interactive STEM learning.

The architect is SFCS (Roanoke, Virginia); the construction manager Branch and Associates (Roanoke).

310 Innovation Boulevard

Pennsylvania State University

A 30,000-square-foot research and office building will be added to Penn State’s 118-acre Innovation Park. 310 Innovation Boulevard will house the Morgan Advanced Materials’ Carbon Science Centre of Excellence and will accommodate research, labs, light assembly and office activities.

Affiliates of GLP Developments invested $7 million into the project. GLP 310 IP and GLP Development Company (Baltimore) share duties as project developers, and the architect is Forum Studio (Chicago). Tenant occupancy will begin in late 2017.
