Campus Groundbreakings: Electrical tech, theater and dentistry
HVAC/electrical tech building
Manchester Community College (N.H.)
This new $9 million HVAC/electrical tech building will be a 21,000-square-foot training facility with advanced electrical and HVAC technology in permanently exposed walls serving as educational aids. It will feature 14 different specialty labs, including a commercial air handler lab, a commercial chiller and boiler lab, and an advanced direct digital control and building automation lab.
On the electrical tech side, there will be a programmable logic control lab, motor control lab, and residential and commercial wiring labs.
Expected to be ready by fall 2017, the building was designed by Lavallee Brensinger (Manchester), with Bauen Corporation (Meredith) as construction manager.
Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Theatre
Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.)
The dramatic $1.2 million home of Dakota Wesleyan’s theater department will provide more versatile performance space for campus theatrical and musical events.
Attached to the south side of Dakota Discovery Museum, the 4,751-square-foot project includes departmental office space, dressing rooms, a workshop, a green room and a black-box theatre with a seating capacity of 150, depending on stage setup.
There will also be a new welcome center for the university and the museum.
Designed and built by Puetz Corporation (Mitchell, S.D.), the curtain should raise by spring 2018.
School of Dentistry
Creighton University (Neb.)
Looking to expand dental care services to local residents, Creighton’s new 200,000-square-foot School of Dentistry will offer more clinic space and feature enhanced labs, classrooms, research space and offices.
The facility will also be home to an interdisciplinary health practitioner office, uniting the schools of dentistry, medicine, pharmacy and health professions, and the college of nursing. A computer-aided design and manufacturing center will be used for instruction related to the latest dental technologies.
The $84.5-million building, designed by RDG Planning and Design (Omaha) and built by MCL Construction (Omaha), is scheduled for a July 2018 completion.
