Under construction on the site of a circa-1905 gymnasium, the 34,430-square-foot, three-story Convergent Media Center at Capital University in Ohio will create a hub of activity where multiple disciplines—including communications, electronic media, music and art—can intersect.

With a price tag of about $16 million, the Collegiate Gothic-style facility should be open for classes in spring 2017. The project team includes Bostwick Design Partnership (Cleveland), Turner Construction (Columbus) and AV consulting firm The Sextant Group (Pittsburgh).

Oval walk at King University (Tennessee)

The university is restoring and expanding King’s Oval walk, which surrounds the center of campus and is ringed by buildings. First bricked in 1962, the walkway will be reconstructed using brick pavers that don’t require mortar and offer minimized maintenance.

Removed bricks are being preserved for future projects. New lampposts, also part of the three-month project, will be more energy-efficient and increase pathway lighting.

Collaborative Energy Complex at the University of North Dakota

The College of Engineering & Mines is getting a new front door—a 37,000-square-foot, $15.5 million headquarters for energy-related programs when it opens in late 2016. Booming oil and gas exploration in North Dakota has fueled exponential growth in the number of petroleum engineering students—from just four in 2010 to up to 350 this fall. The building will also house a student success center for the engineering college.

Project design was by EAPC Architects Engineers (Grand Forks, North Dakota).
