Center for Healthcare Education
Sacred Heart University (Conn.)
This 117,000-square-foot, $45 million facility will create needed teaching space for SHU’s nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and health sciences programs—currently distributed among several buildings on campus.
Besides classrooms and office space, the facility will have teaching and clinical labs, a simulation suite, a dining hall, an outpatient clinic, and study and social space. Completion of the building, designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative in Glastonbury, Connecticut, is anticipated for April 2017.
Culinary Institute of the Pacific
Part of the University of Hawai’i Community Colleges, this new campus is being constructed on the site of a former social club for U.S. Army officers. The $25 million initial phase will include four single-story buildings, an outdoor cooking area, a parking lot and utility infrastructure.
The institute will be home to the third-year advanced professional certificate in culinary management that articulates into a bachelor of applied science at the University of Hawai’i, West O’ahu. Construction of the project, designed by Honolulu-based Ferraro Choi and Associates, is expected to be complete by December 2016.
Advanced Manufacturing Center
Alfred State University’s School of Applied Technology campus (N.Y.)
This $5 million, 16,500-square-foot center will educate freshman and senior welding technology students and senior machine tool technology students in sustainable practices in advanced manufacturing through efficient processes, as well as assist manufacturers in the development of new products and systems.
The center is part of the $15 million “Retooling the Southern Tier” SUNY 2020 project, and the university received a $500,000 grant for equipment through the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council. SWBR Architects of Rochester, New York, designed the envelope for the building, which will be open for fall 2016 classes.
