University of Dayton Arena

University of Dayton (Ohio)

A nearly 50-year-old basketball arena is undergoing $72 million in renovations. When completed in fall 2019, the state-of-the-art venue will seat 13,450 and feature geothermal mechanical systems, club and terrace seating, upgraded concession stands, an upper-level concourse, and improved exterior lighting and landscaping.

Construction is scheduled for three phases to avoid interrupting basketball season. The project team includes Hastings Chivetta Architects Inc. (St. Louis), design architects Sink Combs Dethlefs (Chicago), and contractor Danis (Dayton, Ohio).

Campus Next project

Washington University in St. Louis

This multibuilding project will transform the east end of Washington University’s Danforth campus into a research and teaching hub with three new academic buildings, two multi-use pavilions, a 790-spot underground parking facility, and an expanded Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum.

New buildings will target LEED Gold standards with rooftop solar photovoltaic arrays and high-efficiency heat recovery chillers. Architects include KieranTimberlake (Philadelphia), Moore Ruble Yudell (Santa Monica, Calif.), and Mackey Mitchell (St. Louis).

Construction manager is McCarthy Building Companies (St. Louis). Completion is targeted for summer 2019.

Health and Natural Sciences building

The 61,750-square-foot health and natural sciences building will house Northwestern’s biology, chemistry and nursing departments. State-of-the-art lab spaces will include simulation suites for nursing students, exam rooms for hands-on training and flexible learning classrooms with moveable tables.

The design architect is HGA (Minneapolis); Cannon Moss Brygger Architects (Sioux City, Iowa) is the architect of record; and Opus Design Build LLC. (Minneapolis) is construction manager for the project, scheduled for completion in summer 2018.
