The Facilities Scheduling Manager eliminates double booking, allows for managing and scheduling resources from any web browser, sends automatic notifications to service providers, and specifies setup and cleanup times before and after events. It also tracks and supports green initiatives.
Get the Word Out
Though cell phones and e-mails are primary methods used in delivering emergency notification broadcasts, this setup can have its share of problems, such as communicating with those who didn't sign up to participate and having to make certain on a regular basis that the database's information is up-to-date and accurate.
As a second option, the Enterprise Notification System from Enterasys is reaching out to those online by letting the existing wired and wireless data network infrastructure at a college or university also serve as an effective emergency alert and on-demand notification system.
It redirects all web browser traffic to a secure notification portal, so the system can reach every networked user, including guests and temporary visitors, in balance with the emergency response technology and systems already in place.
An authorized employee, emergency responder, or law enforcement official can access the system through a graphical interface. That individual can create a notification message, determine how severe the message should be (for example, if it's a threat advisory or a weather alert) and what persons or group should be seeing the message, and then transmit the message with a single click.
Online users or temporary visitors will be directed to the system's web page to view the message, which will be displayed in real time. Once the user reads and acknowledges receiving the message, the user can be routed back to the original web page with one click.
Safe and Secure
Mirage Networks introduced its new Mirage Endpoint Control, a network access control (NAC) solution. The solution is transparent to end users trying to gain network access, which is a key to widespread adoption of NAC.
If a user trying to access a network does not meet predetermined requirements (such as having up-to-date virus protection and not running any malicious or suspect applications), that user is guided through a self-remediation process. This step not only reduces helpdesk costs but also removes the danger of intrusion attempts by the unauthorized user. Mirage Endpoint Control can be added to any network environment with minimal effort by the IT staff. It is also scalable, allowing up to 100 appliances to be managed from a central location.
In another step toward preventing data breaches, TouchNet Information Systems revealed Seek-N-Secure, a software/service combination that finds Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and not only helps to protect PII but also to identify the business practices that appear to contribute to the growth of that data.
The software and service do this by identifying payment points throughout campus, developing a compliance strategy, and leveraging what TouchNet refers to as "heat seeking" software to find and isolate data and then to protect it. It works by scanning computers for credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, and bank information and examines this data for key indicators and other related information that indicates that PII is present. When PII is found, options for taking action on tainted files are offered, such as masking or wiping the data. If necessary, encrypted copies of the original files can be archived.
Number Crunching
These days, collecting data on students and systems is not just a smart business move, but it's also quickly becoming a requirement for receiving state and federal funding. To help make the job easier, Datatel unveiled the DataOrchestrator ODS (Operational Data Store), a solution used in conjunction with the company's Colleague ERP system to automate managing and manipulating data for reporting. Users can leverage years of stored data to perform detailed analysis of key performance indicators and other critical factors. The key is a set of predefined, commonly used tables and data elements designed for answering common business questions. DataOrchestrator ODS takes Colleague data and assembles it in a format that is compatible with a variety of reporting solutions.
