Battered by budget and salary cuts, the faculty at Rutgers University’s school of the Arts and Sciences overwhelmingly supported a resolution today that called for cutting university subsidies to the athletic department and giving students a voice in how their money is spent.

While talk has been ongoing for weeks about support in the community for the University of Alabama in Huntsville to break away in frustration from the parent UA System, frustrations with the trustees are also being voiced at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The governing board of the University of Texas is expected to extend the length of football coach Mack Brown’s contract by four years, through 2020, a well-placed source told the American-Statesman this evening.

They threw around ideas people dream about -- a 64-team football playoff -- and others that might be more realistic: finding a way to let players receive a small stipend in addition to their scholarships.
