Surely the funding spat among community colleges can be resolved without creating yet another layer of government.
Nebraskans already have the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, the State College Board, the Postsecondary Coordinating Commission for Higher Education and the Nebraska Community College Association. Plus, each of the community colleges has its own elected board.
Now the postsecondary coordinating commission has suggested the Legislature consider creating yet another statewide council that would manage allocation of state dollars to community colleges.
To put it mildly, that would be overkill. The last thing the state needs is yet another governing agency for higher education.
Every time state senators create another oversight panel, it ends up costing more money.
