Wayne State University's faculty union is seeking a 10-year contract before the state's right-to-work law goes into effect at the end of March, union leaders said Wednesday.
"We want our entire contract done before the right-to-work law kicks in," said Charles Parrish, president of the American Association of University Professors — American Federation of Teachers, WSU chapter.
"You cannot have union security after that. We would like to get it done so that we can continue to have union security for the life of the contract."
WSU spokesman Matt Lockwood declined to comment, saying the university prefers to leave negotiations at the table.
