Why GVSU thinks renting cars by the hour will be a hit with students

Getting around West Michigan could become a bit easier for Grand Valley State University students who don’t own a car.

The university on Oct. 15 will launch a partnership with WeCar, a service owned by Enterprise car rental company that allows customers to rent a vehicle by the hour, said
Tim Thimmesch, vice president for Facilities Services.

The idea is that while students can easily get around by bus, they may occasionally need the convenience of an automobile to get a doctor’s appointment, visit their parents or travel to places that are inaccessible by public transportation, he said.
