After a series of meetings, Whittier College officials and representatives of the various societies on campus have agreed to an ongoing dialogue regarding pledging rules and conduct.
The college’s administration had originally banned the wearing of uniforms and arm-linking among society pledges after a complaint was made Feb. 17 regarding the process. Administrators expressed concerned the practices could be forms of hazing.
“We alerted the societies, but there never was a ban on society attire,” said Dean of Students Jeanne Ortiz.
Rather, she explained, college officials responded in investigating pride attire and researched the practice of linking of arms.
