Western Michigan University has been named one of the most environmentally responsible green colleges by Princeton Review and the U.S. Building Council's Center for Green Schools.
To determine the most eco-friendly schools, 768 colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada were considered in a 50-question survey. Schools received a "green rating" for scores between 60 and 99. Schools scoring at least an 83 were eligible for the list. WMU registered a 96.
In WMU's profile in the guidebook, the university is recognized for using LEED construction standards, extensive electric vehicle infrastructure, water management, numerous energy conservation efforts, use of locally sourced food and trayless dining, and transportation options.
