Wayne State U Police Increase Patrols After Armed Robberies

Wayne State University police are stepping up patrols after a rash of armed robberies near campus last weekend.

"We take the recent crimes very seriously, and are resolved to keep both the campus and adjacent neighborhoods as safe as possible," university officials said in a statement Tuesday.

Three armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery were reported between Friday and Sunday south of campus, in an area bounded by West Hancock, Third, Canfield and Cass Avenue, the WSU police department said in an email alert.

Each incident involved at least two males approaching someone at night.
