Tuition will increase 3.88 percent at Wayne State University this fall.
The board of governors approved the tuition increase Wednesday as part of the university's $567 million operating budget for the 2013 fiscal year starting Oct. 1.
"This is never easy to do. … Our Michigan economy has shown signs of improvement, but there's a long way to go," said Allan Gilmore, president of Wayne State. "And we understand that any increase in tuition is difficult for students, it's difficult for families and friends.
"We've done everything we know how to do to keep tuition affordable and still maintain quality of Wayne State education."
