Vermont State Colleges balk at Sodexo's proposed change of benefits

Sodexo’s plan to change benefits eligibility for many of its hourly employees has run into a roadblock at another institution where it has a food-service contract: Vermont State Colleges.

In a letter today to a regional Sodexo manager based in Massachusetts, Chancellor Tim Donovan writes that because so much uncertainty surrounds the impact of the proposed change both on employees and on the company’s ability to perform, the VSC administration will not approve the change until those effects are clarified.

On Friday, in a brief statement, University of Vermont President Tom Sullivan said no change in benefits would be permitted at UVM “until further notice,” pending a university review. Donovan’s statement Tuesday was more detailed in explaining his administration’s reservations.
