The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors approved research and development-related resolutions at its quarterly meeting Monday.
The board approved a resolution directing the Virginia Tech Foundation to develop a $3.5 million, 8,100-square-foot propulsion laboratory in the Corporate Research Center. It will be operated by the college of engineering, and boost the university’s capacity for high-tech defense and energy research.
The board also approved a resolution allowing the foundation to enter into a long-term lease with developers of the Turner Street mixed use facility and parking garage adjacent to campus.
The foundation previously purchased the 4 acres on which the privately constructed facility will sit. The university will lease about 80 percent of the office space in the 140,000-square-foot building, and the 247,000-square-foot parking garage.
