A year in the making, Virginia Tech on Friday released a methodology intended to meaningfully curb campus and off-campus alcohol misuse and abuse and related harmful behaviors during the next five to seven years.
Engaged student leaders, risk-management training for student clubs and new incentives to do the right thing – such as seeking medical help for a dangerously intoxicated friend – help form the backbone of the proposed strategy for changing student conduct.
In addition, a campus task force called for a commitment to expanded social opportunities that don't involve drinking.
The report found that an estimated 500 injuries occur each year at Virginia Tech as a result of alcohol misuse and abuse.
