UW-Madison will turn to a Texan with three decades' experience managing campus buildings to oversee its facilities, the university announced Friday.

William Elvey takes over as associate vice chancellor for facilities planning and management on Sept. 1, replacing facilities chief Alan Fish, who left late last year for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Elvey is director of facilities management at the University of Texas-Dallas and had previously served as assistant vice president for facilities at Virginia Tech. He also served 20 years with the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps.

"I am very pleased to have the opportunity to serve this world-class public research university," Elvey said in a university release.
