University of Texas regents' chandeliers going to auction block?

There will be no place for ornate chandeliers and soaring walls of hand-rubbed oak in the 19-story, $133.1 million headquarters that the University of Texas System will build on Seventh Street in downtown Austin.

Such features, part of the cattle baron/rich grandmother look of the Board of Regents' current quarters in Ashbel Smith Hall just across Seventh, simply wouldn't fit with the sleeker commercial-office design planned for the new building.

And that gave UT System Regent Alex Cranberg an idea.
