Tapingo, an app that streamlines the everyday shopping experience for on-the-go consumers, today announced it has launched its service at the University of Southern California (USC). Tapingo is the only location-aware shopping app that focuses on immediate order fulfillment for busy consumers in dense retail environments.

At USC, Tapingo will offer mobile shopping at retail brands throughout the campus – including Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Carl’s Junior, Panda Express, California Pizza Kitchen and the Trojan Grounds. Tapingo links USC’s campus card to enable payment directly from meal plans. Students and faculty also have the option to pay with credit card and PayPal.

“Tapingo represents exactly the kind of tech-driven innovation USC seeks to deliver and inspire among its world-class student body,” said Dirk de Jong, associate director of operations for USC Hospitality. “By streamlining the process of ordering and picking up food, students can spend more time working and socializing. In that sense, Tapingo is the perfect complement to USC’s brand and educational experience.”

By instantly connecting consumers with merchants based on consumer location, context and behavior, Tapingo is a centralized marketplace for local commerce. To date, restaurants have been the earliest application of the technology and have used Tapingo to boost their takeout and delivery business.

Consumer benefits include drastic time savings, density of restaurant choices and access to personalized offers and deals. The convenience is amplified over time as the app learns from each customer’s regular habits and then streamlines the experience to accommodate every day purchases. For merchants, Tapingo offers the simplest infrastructure for processing orders; access to transactions from a large customer base; higher average ticket spend due to unique app features; and reduced opex, by directing resources from taking orders to making orders.

“We are proud to have USC join the existing 25 universities to have successfully launched Tapingo on campus,” said Daniel Almog, CEO of Tapingo. “The deal brings us one step closer to our vision of Tapingo as a lifestyle app that transforms the everyday shopping experiences of the modern consumer. We are all creatures of habit, and Tapingo’s solution combines that understanding with the contextual awareness of today’s smartphones to simplify the day-to-day shopping needs for every consumer.
