The University of New Mexico’s new Honors College now has an official dean, further bolstering the college that began as an idea less than two years ago.
UNM on Friday named longtime economics professor Kate Krause as dean of the Honors and University colleges. Krause, who had been serving as interim dean for both, has been with the university since 1996.
She helped create the Honors College, which the university hopes will help attract more high-performing students, while bringing more prestige to the school. Administrators have long worried that UNM isn’t attracting high-achieving New Mexico high school graduates, or those with high ACT scores and grade point averages.
