University of Michigan president on downsizing: 'This is the right thing to do'

The University of Michigan has pledged to pause its downsizing initiative, but President Mary Sue Coleman says the delay will be brief.

Multiple faculty governing bodies have asked Coleman to delay the project by at least two years.

That's not going to happen, Coleman aid Monday during a meeting with faculty leadership.

"We will move forward, We're not going to delay for two years. It's not going to happen," she said. "But we want to make sure we have lots of input ... to reorganize the work that remains in the unit."
