Union threat should change college athletics

Big-time college athletics doesn't need unionization and the problems that go with it.

But the NCAA, which rules college athletics, needs to implement big changes. And the threat of unionization should be enough to bring about needed reforms.

Last month, the National Labor Relations Board ruled that Northwestern University football players had the right to unionize because they are "employees." Northwestern players will vote April 25 on whether to unionize.
