Union calls for boycott of Eastern Michigan University student teachers

The teachers unions in six Washtenaw County public school districts are supporting a boycott of student teachers from Eastern Michigan University as a result of the college’s affiliation with the state's Education Achievement Authority.

The boycott has meant that the EMU College of Education has seen student teacher placements fall through this fall, said Dean Jann Joseph.

The Washtenaw County Education Association sent letters to all of the teachers in its union in April advising them not to accept student teachers from EMU. Joseph, who joined EMU in 2011, said the ripple effects are being felt by EMU faculty this fall as they try to place students for the winter semester.
