UND reported record first-day enrollment Wednesday, the first full day of class.
The total number of students is 14,076, a 4.8 percent increase over the record first-day enrollment established in fall 2010.
Returning undergraduates were the single biggest contributing factor, prompting President Robert Kelley to hail the university’s retention efforts. UND’s graduate school also made a big impact.
At North Dakota State University in Fargo, enrollment totaled 14,240, a 0.3 percent increase. President Dean Bresciani said the university deliberately avoided growth after legislators complained the university was growing too fast.
