The University of Connecticut's Board of Trustees voted Monday to increase tuition and fees by 6 percent next year and to have comparable increases each year over the next four years.
With an increase of 6 percent, tuition and fees for in-state students will climb in 2012 to $11,290 — $620 more than this year's charge of $10,670.
By the fourth year, the annual increase will grow to 6.8 percent, assuming no increase in state funding.
However, if the state boosts funding to the university, the increases in tuition and fees will be scaled back — to 5.5 percent in 2012 on up to 6.3 percent in 2016.
