UConn tops Sierra Club's 'green' college list

Energy-efficient light bulbs, classes on sustainability and honey from the on-campus apiary helped propel the University of Connecticut to the top of Sierra magazine's annual green schools list.

The magazine scores colleges and universities on a host of factors, from what type of food they serve in their dining halls to how they control the temperature in their classrooms.

Three years ago, UConn landed at 49 out of 162 schools on the list; this year, the university was number 1.
