UConn Provost Stepping Down, Returning To Teaching

The University of Connecticut's provost is stepping down this spring, prompting a nationwide search next fall for his replacement.

Peter Nicholls has been UConn's provost and executive vice president since 2005, and came to Connecticut from Colorado State University. UConn President Susan Herbst said this week that Nicholls plans to step down May 31, but will remain on the faculty as a researcher and professor.

Mun Choi, UConn's engineering school dean, will serve as interim provost while Nicholls' replacement is sought.

Herbst says she understands Nicholls' desire to return to teaching, but says she feels "a sense of loss at the departure of such an outstanding leader, colleague and friend."
