UCF President John Hitt's second-in-command -- Provost Tony Waldrop -- may be leaving Florida's largest public university to take a president's job at University of South Alabama.

The Alabama school's board of trustees announced this week that Waldrop has been chosen as a finalist in its presidential search.

Waldrop, who has been the provost at University of Central Florida since 2010, beat out about 130 people to become a finalist, according to the University of South Alabama.

If selected, Waldrop would replace USA's former president, Gordon Moulton, who retired last summer after serving as the school's top administrator for 15 years.
