UAB Names Case Western Department Head As New Dean Of Engineering

The University of Alabama at Birmingham announced today that J. Iwan Alexander will become Dean of the School of Engineering effective Aug. 1.

Alexander comes to UAB from Case Western Reserve University, where he chairs their department of mechanical and aerospace engineering.

He joined Case Western in 1998 and previously held positions at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Carnegie Mellon University.

He replaces Linda Lucas, who served as dean of engineering from 2000 to 2011 before she was advanced to provost. Alexander will be the sixth dean to the head UAB's school of engineering.
