The University of Wisconsin is the only Big Ten school that can't house all freshmen who want to live on campus.
That's about to change with $136 million in new construction.
The first phase of the $47.6 million Lakeshore Hall, set to open next fall, will add 408 beds. A second phase that costs about $15 million for another 156 beds is scheduled to open in fall 2013.
UW for the first time in decades should have enough room for any freshman or transfer student who wants to live on campus, once these new beds are added to 1,025 other new beds tucked in two residence halls that opened in 2006 and 2007, officials said last week. The campus gained another 142 beds in a 2008 remodeling project.
