University of West Alabama officials say work will begin soon to upgrade key athletic facilities on the school's 600-acre campus.

Voting unanimously today, trustees approved a measure to pull $1.5 million from an existing bond issue in order to expand the athletic department's weight room and sports-medicine facility in the Homer Field House.

The funding will also go to install a new floor and bleachers for the basketball court at Pruitt Hall.

Trustee Terry Bunn, who proposed the measure, said the upgrades would help with recruiting by making the facilities more attractive to potential students.
