U. of Texas president Bill Powers lobbying Congress to restore research funds

Bill Powers, president of the University of Texas at Austin, made the rounds Wednesday at the Capitol, urging lawmakers to restore funding for university research.

Powers is a month into a year-long stint as chairman of the Association of American Universities, a consortium of 60 leading universities. He was joined on Capitol Hill by leaders of other universities, including Ohio State University, UCLA, the University System of Maryland, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Tulane University and Washington State University.
