Newspaper boxes will be allowed in front of the University of Texas’ Belo Center for New Media after all.
The Daily Texan, UT’s student newspaper, reported Thursday that such boxes had been barred from the new, $54.8 million building, which houses among other units the School of Journalism. University officials said the intent was to avoid litter and clutter and to maintain the carefully designed look of the plaza.
But some journalism faculty members cried foul, insisting that there should be easy access to the Daily Texan. Various national journalism websites picked up on the dustup, and within hours a reprieve had been granted.
