The fall 2011 freshman class at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is its largest since it implemented selective admissions in 1999, according to a ULL news release. A total of 2,966 freshmen enrolled this fall to produce a modest increase of 11 more students over last year’s freshman count. The average high school grade point average of the 2011 freshmen is 3.23 on a 4.0 scale, slightly lower than last year’s 3.25 average, which was the university’s highest, according to ULL figures. This year’s freshmen charted an average ACT composite score of 22.25 compared to last year’s 22.4. New admission requirements effective next fall will require incoming freshmen to have either an ACT composite of 23 or a 2.5 GPA in their core academic classes. Also, students who don’t meet required English and math ACT scores must take necessary college remedial courses prior to fall admission.
