Applications to the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa for next fall are up compared with this time last year, a school official said.
As of Tuesday, the U of I had received 16,355 first-year applications, a 3.6 percent increase from the 15,784 received at the same point in time last year, according to Michael Barron, executive director of admissions.
Despite the increase, the university still is aiming for a class size similar to the last two years. Of the 18,000 first-year students who applied to the University of Iowa last year, 4,565 actually enrolled.
At the University of Northern Iowa, applications from perspective first-year students are up about 8 percent, according to Christie Kangas, director of admissions.
