The Texas Tech University System named state Sen. Robert Duncan, R-Lubbock, as the new chancellor Thursday. He will start July 7.
The system’s board of regents named Duncan the sole finalist for the position on May 19, but state law requires 21 days for a final action on behalf of the board.
Duncan succeeds Kent Hance, who announced retirement in October. Hance has served since December 2006 and will stay on as chancellor emeritus.
