Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp wants to move the A&M Health Science Center under the control of Texas A&M University, he confirmed in an interview Wednesday.
Sharp wants to present an agenda item on the topic to the Board of Regents at the body's regularly scheduled August meeting in College Station, he said.
The center's six colleges last fall had 2,100 students, 500 faculty members and 1,100 staff, in addition to externally funded research of nearly $80 million.
All of that would be absorbed into Texas A&M University's profile and its nearly $700 million in externally funded research, dramatically increasing its research stature, Sharp said.
