Study: URI Financing Down Nearly In Half Since '02

A national report says state support for the University of Rhode Island has fallen so dramatically that its mission and future are in jeopardy. The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/yXauJR ) that the study by the National Science Board found that Rhode Island's per-student financing of its flagship research university has declined by an inflation-adjusted 47 percent since 2002. The amount the state spent per student in the 2009-2010 school year ranks Rhode Island 48 of 50 states. In 2002, state financing for URI was $6,920 per student. That fell to less than $3,700 by 2009-2010.
