A Southern Methodist University student reported she was sexually assaulted early Monday morning by a student acquaintance in a campus dorm room, according to SMU police.
No arrest had been made as of Wednesday. Campus police issued a crime alert to students and faculty and were investigating the alleged incident, which the student said occurred in Perkins Hall.
The report comes as a task force continues to review SMU’s sexual misconduct policies and how the university deals with students who are involved.
Since last fall, SMU’s sexual assault and sexual misconduct policies have drawn scrutiny from Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins, alumni and donors. Watkins questioned whether SMU was properly and expediently handling rape cases and protecting victims.
