Skanska USA announced that it has been awarded a $65 million contract to begin renovation and new construction of Duke University’s West Campus Union.
“The renovation of the Duke West Campus Union is a project that will allow us to continue our relationship with Duke and further enhance the top-tier quality of the campus,” said Project Executive Mark Collins.
The 115,000-square-foot renovation and construction of the West Campus Union will encompass student dining, casual common spaces, faculty common areas, meeting rooms, food preparation facilities, and storage and mechanical rooms. The building updates will create a more vibrant and energetic campus union that will greatly enhance the student and faculty experience.
“Building on the successful completion of the new Penn Pavilion during the first phase of the West Campus projects, this next major upgrade to our historic campus will bring new state-of-the-art amenities and services that will allow us to better serve our students and faculty,” stated Paul Manning, Director of the Office of Project Management at Duke University.
During the renovation of the West Campus Union, Penn Pavilion will house temporary dining facilities for students.
Working with New York-based architect Grimshaw, Skanska will seek LEED certification for the project which will begin in November and is slated for completion in December 2015. For more information, visit http://www.usa.skanska.com/
