The president of Simpson College has announced he will retire next year.
John Byrd, 62, has served as president for six years. In a statement, Byrd said the decision to step down was influenced by the upcoming completion of several projects he spearheaded.
A $14 million campus center is scheduled to open in the coming months, a performing arts center has expanded and the remodeling of a fitness center is in the works.
Under Byrd’s leadership, the college also established the Iowa History Center, Culver Public Policy Center and Simpson Urban Studies Institute.
